Rajshahi divisional public library
Abstract
In the light of the growing global dialogue on redefining libraries as ‘knowledge hubs cultural center’, this project looks to re-examine the formal role, programming and design of
a traditional public library as a center of knowledge. Public places are an essential part
contributing to the socio-cultural character of a city such as Rajshahi, which is famous for its
rich historical background and educational prosperity. Spaces open to public help in bridging
the various communities residing together and help generate inter-personal relationships
and even a common, local identity that unites the community. By extending our
understanding of libraries as ‘place where people are able to interact, engage and access
resources, materials for reference and learning, we can move towards a newer role for the
library in our societies.
