A review on the novel Heterocyclic Antileishmanial drugs for the treatment of Leishmaniasis
Abstract
New antileishmanialdrugs must be developed to make the treatment of leishmaniasis
available for the people all over the world. It must be ensured that every single person has
access to the medicines. Alternatives to the current antileishmanials are not only necessary
for the lack of availability but also necessary for another crucial problem that is the toxicity
level of the current medicines. In some cases, the current antileishmanials appeared to be
ineffective because parasite resistance occurred. Therefore, search for alternatives should be
done so that we can use them in different clinical situations like parasite resistance and
toxicity. This review was done with the aim to study newer molecules that can be used as an
alternative to the current antileishmanial agents.
