An Arab EFL context: does variance in anxiety and motivation across gender impact language attainment?

This study proposes to investigate whether mixed classes are a de-motivating influence and increase anxiety levels and causes variance in performance between males and females. The researchers’ observation and documentary evidence suggest that female learners outperformed their male counterparts in assessments and class participation. The main objective of this study was to identify factors which account for the disparity in gender
performance, addressing three research questions: a) is there a correlation between gender and performance? b) Do levels of motivation and types of anxiety vary in males and females thus causing variance in language attainment in a co-educational Arab EFL context? c) Does effort work on the anxiety experienced by female
students and make the latter beneficial? A questionnaire was administered to a stratified sample of 100 Arab EFL learners in the Foundation Programme at a private college in the Sultanate of Oman. Findings show that although males and females display equal amounts of anxiety and motivation, females still outperformed the males. This study identifies the factors responsible for this disparity.

Comparison of temporal disaggregation techniques in the case of export of Bangladesh

Export plays very an import role in the economy of Bangladesh. We have tested four methods of disaggregation of which one is Boot, Feibes and Lisman (BFL) method mathematical based method. Other three are regression based techniques namely Chow-Lin, Fernandez and Litterman. Yearly export is the only available information for Boot, Feibes and Lisman (BFL) method. It is found that for T-4 growth both BFL first difference (FD) and second difference (SD) of BFL generated much better result than T-1 growth. Secondly, we have disaggregated yearly export of Bangladesh to quarterly export data by Chow-Lin, Fernandez and Litterman using Quantum index of Industrial production (QIP) as the indicator series. Based on RMSE (root mean square error) and figures, it is concluded that the Chow-Lin (MinSS and MaxLog) as well as by Fernandez disaggregated better than Litterman (Maximum likelihood) estimates. It is also found that Chow-Lin (MaxLog) and Fernandez forecasting power is slightly better than the Litterman (ML) approach. This a scholastic work, but the results may be a guideline to temporally disaggregate the annual time series data into quarterly series, which will be beneficial for the countries where high frequency (quarterly) GDP are not available.

Japan is the world‘s third largest economy. But currently economic situations of Japan are not stable. It is not increasing as expected. Since
2013 it was world second largest economy but Japan loosed its placed to China in 2014 due to slow growth of important economic indicators. By using
the basic Keynesian model, we will provide a detailed analysis of the short and long run impacts of the changes for Japan‘s real GDP, rate of
unemployment and inflation rate. We demonstrated a detailed use of the 45-degree diagram or the AD-IA model and other economic analysis of the
macroeconomic principles that underlie the model and concepts. Finally we will recommend the government with a change in fiscal policy what based on
the analysis by considering what might be achieved with a fiscal policy response and the extent to which any impact on the stock of public debt might be
a consideration

A simple study on weight and height of students

This study was conducted on a group of male and female students of age range of 18-25 years. In this paper it is tried to find out a correlation between height and weight of male and female students. Then the simple regression equations of weight on height are fitted for both for male and female students. A total of 639 students of different departments of BRAC University, Dhaka, Bangladesh in the spring semester of 2016 are participated in this survey. Body Mass Index (BMI) of the students was calculated to compare the health status of male and females students. It is found that that the most of the students (males and females) have the normal weight. It is interestingly noticed that the higher percentage (34.18%) of males are overweight than the females; whereas the females (13.33%) are more than double in underweight than their male’s counterpart (5.93%). The correlation between height and weight of male students is calculated as 0.435 (Pearson’s coefficient of correlation). On the other hand the correlation between height and weight of female students was 0.319. From the t tests, it is proved that the both the coefficients of correlation are highly statistically significant (p-value<0.01). From the simple regression equations of weight on height, it is found that the both for male and female students the effect of height on weight is almost same. It is also found that the effect of height on weight both for male and female students is highly significant (p-value<0.01).
