Brac Institute of Governance and Development
2020 was a challenging year for BIGD, one that forced us to think hard about our role in tackling the COVID-19 pandemic, by building on our core strengths and identifying areas where we could push the boundaries. As a knowledge organization, we at BIGD implemented several strategic initiatives to adapt to the rapidly evolving crisis, which helped cement our role as a policy and practice-focused, applied social science research institute. As we march ahead in 2021, we would like to take a moment to take a step back and reflect on our journey of resilience in 2020.

2021 was a year of profound significance for us as a nation, when we celebrated 50 years of Bangladesh. But celebration often provokes reflection. Our Golden Jubilee amidst the most consequential pandemic of the last 100 years and the climate that is changing faster than ever, compel us to critically reflect on our achievements, vulnerabilities and ways forward. For the BRAC Institute of Governance and Development (BIGD), it is a moment to reflect on our relevance to the future of Bangladesh.
The BIGD Reflections 2021 Report looks back at our priorities and achievements over the past year. In our COVID-19 recovery research strategy, education is going to be a central theme, trying to find not only the ways of repairing damages but also how to make sure that education makes our children more resilient to future shocks, be it economic, technological or natural.
