    Abstract
Wireless sensor networks (WSN) are mobile ad hoc networks in which sensors have limited resources and communication capabilities. Secure communications in some wireless sensor networks are critical. Key management is the fundamental security mechanism in wireless sensor network. To achieve security in WSN, it is important to be able to encrypt the messages sent between sensor nodes. In our thesis, we present an enhanced heterogeneous tree based key management scheme for security of wireless sensor networks. Our scheme combines efficiently different key management techniques in each architecture level and also it has it’s our dynamic key renewal process. Here whenever a node is compromised key renewal is done by one way hash functions and simple XOR operations. This combination gives the scheme good performances in terms of key storage overhead as well as in terms of attack for node capture. We compared our scheme with most other heterogeneous schemes and overall our scheme gives better performances.
